Q.How Can I Create A Pure Line Of A Plant, By Cross Pollinating It?

Anonymous added on August 13, 2023 | Answered

I’ve heard that F1 hybrid plants are not a pure line, but if I keep on saving the seeds in each generation, will I eventually get a pure line? Will I get a pure line from F1 hybrid plants, if I regrow it via the roots, rather than saving the seeds and replanting it?

By reproducing through the root system, rather than seeds, you should get the same plant as the parent. Not so with the seeds. Since they are hybrids, by planting seed of their offspring, you may not get the same characteristics of the parent plants. The gene makeup has changed, so you likely won't get a pure line.
