Q.Hibiscus Plants- Unsure Of Exact Names-zone 8 Or 9 Depending On Whom Is Asked.
I have 4 hibiscus plants, I think they are 4 years old. They have been wintered outside and in spring they have always returned vigorously and flowered quite well. This year all of them are 2-3 feet shorter than seasons past. Each year as they re-grow I add soil to the top of the container but have not ever dug down around them and replaced the soil. They are in very large containers in the full sun, barely shaded by a dogwood tree, watered twice a day when necessary- fertilized regularly- I cannot come up with a reason they are all shorter. It could be very likely that thy are rootbound! Doing some root pruning, or potting up into a larger container can help:
