Q.Has my bonsai died?

Zone Frinton on Sea | Anonymous added on February 7, 2020 | Answered

My bonsai was doing just fine until the leaves gradually started dropping off. I had moved it from one room to another and soon after is took a downhill turn. It has now lost all its leaves and looks to me as if it may have died. Do you think this looks like the case? I have attached a photo for your opinion.

It may just have dropped its leaves due to stress, or it has gone into winter dormancy. Only the tropical and subtropical bonsai should be kept indoors. If it's a deciduous tree or conifer it should be outdoors, unless a severe frost is forecast.

You can scrape off a little of a branch to see if it is green underneath. If it is green, it is still alive.
