Q.Harvesting Butternut

Zone Melrose, Kansas (bordering southeast KS, northeast OK, and southwest Missouri. | Anonymous added on September 7, 2020 | Answered

Hi there… Can you please tell me if a butternut is ready that’s a rich creamy color but not exceptionally tan? I’m worried about it splitting from being on the vine too long. This one was the first to grow and is quite wide, I’d say maybe 5 inches and about 9 inches long. Thanks in advance for any advice you have.
