Guava Tree and Avocado Tree

Question

1. My guava tree had quite a few budding fruits. But, alas, dog just got it and cut off the tree from the middle which had all the fruits. Can I soak it in water to revive? Is the rest of tree revivable?
2. One of my avacado trees seems to be alive (the stem is still green) but the rest of it is black. Should I cut of the black portion?

I'm sorry but you will not likely be able to save the broken Guava tree.
