Growth on Fig Tree

Zone Eastern Shore Maryland, 50 miles southeast of baltimore | DukeD added on May 16, 2015 | Answered

Was in my yard today and noticed these odd growths on the truck of my fig tree. Do you have any idea what this is and if I should be concerned about it? Thanks!

You are seeing the results of the Ambrosia Beetle infesting the tree.
There is no treatment for them and you need to work to keep the infestation under control
Please read the links below to familiarize yourself with this insect and how best to handle the situation.
You may want to consider consulting an arborist.
