Q.growing Zinnia flowers — annual or perennial ?

ian stark added on January 19, 2018 | Answered

Hi What is the difference between an annual plant and a perennial . The reason i ask is that we have recently planted Zinnias and i would like to know if we can prune them back over winter when flowering stops and leave them in to come back again in the spring. We are in a temperate climate and usually get one or two frosts(not heavy) a year.
Than you,
Ian

An annual, from the Latin word for year, lives one growing season. It sprouts, flowers then dies. This is an annual's biological destiny. They are easy to grow from seed to enjoy again next year. There are many seed catalogues online and you'll be surprised at the very large selection of zinnias - many colors and sizes from which to choose.
