Growing Vegetables Near Persimmon Trees

kane added on August 19, 2012 | Answered

Is there any reason not to plant a veg garden near persimmon trees? I know tomatoes and peppers do not do well near walnut trees, and I am wondering if the same may apply to persimmons? I am in northern Arkansas if this matters. . . . Thank you.

No, there is no reason why you can't plant your veggies near a persimmon tree. Just be sure to allow enough space to ensure the tree's roots will not take up all the necessary nutrients that the vegetables require. Also, make sure the tree does not cast too much shade on the garden.
