Q.Giant pumpkin vines are dying

I have 2 giant pumpkin plants and the vines are dying. The pumpkins are beach ball sized and orange. We have recently had a severe heat wave and was told it is making the vines die. Is this true or is this part of the growing process? Thank you.

It is certainly possible that the heat was a contributing factor as high temps will quickly stress out plants, especially if they do not receive adequate amounts of water during this time. If the pumpkins are ripe, you can go ahead and harvest them. If not, let them be, though they can sometimes ripen off the vine. These articles will help you:
