Q.Getting An Amaryllis To Rebloom

I read your article on amaryllis care and the reason why you may get all leaves when you try to get it to rebloom again. I got a bulb last year. It bloomed and I kept the leaves to build up nutrients for several weeks then let it go dormant. I started watering it about 3 weeks ago but all that is growing are leaves. Did I perhaps let it go dormant too soon? If I let the leaves grow will I have more success with it blooming again next year? How long a period of dormancy does it need? (These were dormant for about 5-6 months) Thanks for any help you can provide!

I think yours went into dormancy too soon and didn't have enough time to replenish the bulb. When the amaryllis finishes flowering, cut off the flower stem, but not the leaves. Move the plant outside for the summer. Then in September, you will bring it inside for its dormancy period. Here is how:
