Q.Gardenia Houseplant

Anonymous added on February 13, 2014 | Answered

I was given a gardenia last Sept. with lovely flowers. It develops loads of buds, which do not come into bloom. Its foliage is good, and it is in full light in the kitchen window. Where am I going wrong?

It is possible that you have thrips. They are hard to see and they cause will normally prevent blooming of buds. This article will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/insects/controlling-thrips.htm This article will help if you feel it is not thrips: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/gardenia/gardenia-care-to-get-a-gardenia-bush-to-bloom.htm, https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/gardenia/gardenia-flowers-gardenia-buds-falling-off-plant.htm (While your buds are not technically falling off, the causes for falling off would also be the same for buds not opening.)
