Gardenia Has Turned Variegated

Question

I have dark green spreading gardenias, very healthy. Each year some of the dark green leaves become variegated, which is pretty but I am wondering what this is telling me.

I would have a soil test done. It sounds like you may be lacking in nitrogen or iron, but how much I cannot say. Have a soil test done and adjust based on those results.
