Garden Box

Question

The wife gave me some real estate to start a bigger garden this year in the yard. I am planning on getting some railroad ties to build a box about 1-1/2 feet off the ground. Do you think I’ll need to pull the grass up before or will it just die off without it growing up through the garden?
