Q.Foxtail Palms

How big does the base on Foxtail palms get? We have planted a row of them, now nearly 3 years old, and they are starting to push a wooden barrier along a garden bed (The wooden barrier is held by cemented-in posts along the way. It’s the wooden section in between they are pushing out. ). Do we need to get them out, or will they start growing the other way?

Mature trees (approx. 12 yrs.) typically reach a base (or trunk) diameter of about 18-24 inches. Yours are still rather young so this shouldn't be an issue, though they could have been planted too close to the barrier. If this is the case, you can transplant them accordingly. You should also take into account the spread of its leaves, which will be about 15-20 ft. Make sure to get as much of the root system as possible when moving.
