Q.Foxtail palm problem

Zone Naples, Fl 34104 | Portwind added on February 7, 2018 | Answered

My Mature and healthy looking foxtail just shed a green frond from the crown shaft. Looking up there is another is ripping away.
The growth spike is in emerging and I don’t see any other problem.
We are in zone 10a.
Although we were hit hard by Irma this palm did not sustain damage

These palms will be self cleaning. This is a natural process, and not much of a concern. If they all start falling off, then I would look to a soil infection. The tree appears healthy, though.

Self cleaning usually occurs after all the nutrients are depleted from old leaves. Not till they are completely brown do they fall.
That’s why in non self cleaning palms leaves should never be removed till all the nutrients are gone.

These leaves( fronds) are so green and healthy.

Maybe an animal ..?
