How do I get a fig tree to stop producing fruit? I am renting and cannot just cut the tree down. Is there a way I can get the tree to stop growing fruit? It is creating a mess and attracts too many flies.

You have a few options here; you can prune it back but it will still produce fruit, just not as many. You can remove the flowers as they come but that may be a daunting task. Unless the tree is completely removed it will continue to drop figs.
