Is it just in plastic or is it planted in a container? If it is not in a container, plant it in one using well-draining potting soil. Then you can keep it in the garage over winter if it stays above freezing. If the garage gets cold enough to freeze, keep the fig in a cool location inside near a sunny window. Water only enough to keep it from drying out. You can plant it outside in early spring. Here is more on its care:
