Q.Ficus tree dropping leaves

Anonymous added on August 16, 2015 | Answered

My ficus is planted outdoors, established for several years. In the last couple of weeks, it has dropped more than 50% of its leaves. The stems are not dried out, see no new leaf growth. Here in Florida, we have had a lot of rain, but that’s not unusual. No bugs no yellow leaves. What’s wrong?

Assuming this is a weeping fig, Ficus benjamina, leaf drop is a fact of life. They drop leaves when any change is done. Even moving from one side of a room to another. The fact that you just trimmed it would be the reason for the sudden dropping of the leaves and should clear up on its own. This link should help with pruning the plant: http://aces.nmsu.edu/ces/yard/2002/083102.html
