Eliminating crab grass

Question

I have hired so called grass experts in the past but they have not been able to eradicate the crab grass in my sod yard. Can you help me? I’m tired of throwing good money after bad to these experts and feel I could probably do a better job myself. Thanks for your help in advance.

It's all about timing, getting the pre-emergent down before the crabgrass germinates. Call your extension agent to find out the exact timing in your area. One place I lived was when the forsythia was blooming.

Then, later in summer, you can get the ones that grew with a post-emergent herbicide. Crabgrass can sprout from spring to fall.
