Q.Dymondia & Weed

Zone 91745 | Anonymous added on May 6, 2026 | Answered

to whom it may concern, I am using dymondia to replace my lawn. I have a dumb question about the spacing of the plant. it say the plant wide is about 18-24in, does it mean the distance of two plants is about 36-48 inch? if not, please advise. also, I use flats of dymondia. what is the correct way to plant? should I spread out each of them to plant it? also, I have a uncultivated hillside yard which has a lot of weeds. I would like to know what the efficient way to control the weeds? use herbicide? use plastic or carbon to do sheetcover? use mulch? thanks and looking forward to hear from you.

If it says the plant grows 18 to 24 inches wide, then yes, two plants would span about 36 to 48 inches. You can plant your pieces 12 inches apart. If you are planting in a large area, an herbicide will be the quickest and easiest method to rid the hillside of weeds. You can lay down cardboard, but it may take months to kill the weeds. Once you have it planted, mulch will reduce the weed problem as well as a pre-emergent product for gardens that prevents weeds for months (active ingredient trifluralln). You also can use products containing corn gluten meal for weed control.
