Dog Friendly Garden

Question

We have a 20 month old Weimaraner. He is a very large dog and consequently in the time we have had him (roughly 18 months), the garden (i.e. more so the lawn) has taken a bit of a battering. We would like to redesign our garden so we can try and fence off the lawn area with a gate and pathway, etc. in order to try and keep the area looking nice. We have a large patio area around the house at the back and are happy for him to have access to that area. Because of the amount of rain we have had, it is a quagmire out there at the moment. Can you suggest what we could put into the large borders and advise on the fencing?
