Q.Do You Need To Cover Or Treat The Area Of A Large Branch?

Our trees are older and I am hoping if I remove a large branch it would less likely to break in large storms. Also i was told to clip it into the shape if a mushroom , can you explain how? Thank you for any help 🍎🍏

It is no longer advised to treat where a branch has been cut. The cut will heal better on its own. Here are some pruning tips, plus how to raise the crown:
