Q.Deciduous Trees In Sandy Soil At Bayside

Anonymous added on July 31, 2011 | Answered

I have a place is in South Fork off Long Island, New York. . . in East Hampton area. It had hawthorne trees that the neighbor cut down after 22 years, which were about 18-20 feet tall. He will replace trees with whatever I want. They are in sandy soil 25 feet or so from Bay Water beach, with harsh winters. What deciduous trees do you recommend? I don’t want cedars or junipers. Will autumn or Russian olive work and can they be large when mature, about 15 ft. ?

Go to a good tree nursery and ask for suggestions for your area that meet your specifications.
