Dead Branches Of Spruce Tree

Question

Hi there, do you have any idea what has caused the damage to several of the branches near the top of the spruce tree I have – (see images). I look forward to a positive answer.

I would research these possibilities: drought stress, poor soil conditions, high humidity (may be causing fungal diseases), canker or pests like aphids.
