Crape Myrtle Tree

gercha5964@comcast.net added on April 2, 2018 | Answered

Recently moved. So have another\'s garden to improve on. A crape myrtle tree apears to have been pruned down to ugly stubs for several winters. Last winter it was not. So now there are small spindle branches with the remains of dead balls from blossoms. These are 4 to 5 feet long. Question: Do I cut back as in previous years or leave branches on? So appreciate your help. Charlie G.

You will have to let a few branches establish as the new replacement main branches. You can cut everything else off but leave enough to be the next main branches. This article can help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/crepe-myrtle/pruning-crepe-myrtle-trees.htm
