courgettes from cucumber plant

Question

My mum planted mini cucumber plants. We’ve had a few cucumbers off this plant, but now it’s starting to give courgettes off the same plant. We’re a little confused as to why this may be happening.

This would not be possible for a cucumber plant to produce 2 different fruit types.
Perhaps a 2nd volunteer plant came up in the same area of the garden, this being the zucchini plant.
