Q.Coneflowers Flop Over

Zone 06811 6A | Anonymous added on July 30, 2024 | Answered

They are in a narrow bed and grow profusely but get to a certain height and then flop over. I stake them but wonder if there is some other reason. They look very healthy.

It is likely from being crowded in the soil. Mine fall over after a hard rain. I think too the flowerheads get heavy.

It also could be the soil is somewhat clayey and roots can't get a strong hold. Here is more about coneflower.
