Q.Cherry Tree

We have an old cherry tree that the top portion about 10-12 feet seems to be dead. Can we cut that off or will that kill the rest of the tree?

There is still growth on the lowest part of the tree.

We’ve lived here 14 years, the house was built in 1979 so that could be when the tree was originally planted. We’ve had cherries from the tree up to last year so it was still producing.

Yes, this pruning will help rejuvenate an old tree. Just cut off any dead branches, keeping several live branches that will become your new crop. https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/fegen/rejuvenating-old-fruit-trees.htm
