Q.Caring for Hibiscus Plant

Anonymous added on June 16, 2011 | Answered

Sometimes my hibiscus plant’s leaves have black areas and I am so afraid of harming it. What do I do to prevent this from happening? (My hibiscus is an in-ground plant year round) Other than the black areas, my hibiscus is beautiful, as the leaves do not always have the black spots.

Sounds like your hibiscus is suffering from a fungus, such as mildew. Dusting it with an all purpose fungicide should help, or spray with neem oil. The damaged leaves may yellow and fall, but don't despair, new ones will grow quickly.
