Can Mock Orange Bushes Cause Infection If Pricked By One?

About 3 weeks I got my thumb stuck when I brushed against a mock orange bush. It is infected and tender after a week of antibiotics and 4X a day warm compress soaks. They want me to see a hand surgeon. Is there anything else I can do to help?
