Q.Can I top a fig tree without damage?

Zone Don't know my zone but I live in San Diego, CA | racrsc added on March 20, 2015 | Answered

The tree is about 8 to 9 yrs old. I am limited as to space and want to keep the tree at about 7 to 8 ft tall. At this point it is about 7 ft tall. Can I top (cut) the top foot of the tree without damage to its side growth or fruit production?

Yes, you can prune the fig tree to a more manageable size, but pruning should be done when the tree is dormant.
