Q.Can I prune my burning bush in late May?

My dwarf burning bush has grown very large. I missed pruning it during the dormant stage. However, we are about to put new siding on the house and the bush is definitely in the way. I know it will be “ugly” this year but just don’t want to kill it. Can I do a hard prune now in late May?
