Can I grow vegetables in a raised bed placed in hot enclosed space?

Question

My yard is relatively small (15 feet deep and 19 feet wide) with a fence, small shrubs and garage on the sides so there is little circulation of air in hot summers of Sacramento, California. The space is south facing from my house.

I have gardened before in an enclosed spaces but it was hard on the vegetable plants. Any tips?
