Q.Can I grow my peach tree over a pergola?

Zone Outside of Victoria BC, Zone 8b | offthegriddream added on August 6, 2015 | Answered

We live on Vancouver Island (Zone 8b) and have 2 peach trees against our shop wall. I want to build a pergola over our patio and have the peach trees grow over the top. Is there any risk for the tree being out across the trellis? It gets very warm there during the day and the trees currently are doing well tucked against the wall. Although they do need a serious pruning. I was hoping to get more fruit/keep it away from deer by having it grow up. We rarely get snow here.

I really don't see any reason this would not work. You will need to make sure you have air circulation for the health of the tree and watering would need to be monitored.
