Q.Can I Cut A Section Out Of A Young Tree And Regraft It.

I have several tropical trees that I have grown up to about 2.4 mtrs/8 foot. Unfortunately, over their few seasons they have not over wintered very well, dropping most of their summer branch growth. Although they are growing branches/leaves again, they all have their mid stems devoid of branches. Is it possible to cut out this mid section and graft the top growing section onto the original root section?

This is a common method for keeping papayas a little shorter. I would practice, first, on some that are not as important to you, though. Here is an article that will get you started on grafting:
