What are these alien type things growing out of this bromliad – are they normal or am I doing something wrong – I’ve had it just two weeks and watered it once in the heart of it like the instructions say. It’s kept indoors by the window in indirect sunlight because of the blinds???

That pinkish red growth is a flower bract. These hold the reproductive organs. Those small things you see sticking out of that are what appear to be male pollen anthers. This is completely normal. It is a sign that it is healthy.
