Why does my Boskoop glory grape have thick skin?

This could be a characteristic of the variety. Varieties intended for making wine are often bred to have thicker skins because the skin adds flavor.

If the same vine has produced thinner skinned grapes in the past, the thick skins could be a sign of age or of unusual environmental conditions this year.
