Q.Bolting Cucumber Plants

Anonymous added on August 7, 2011 | Answered

We live in southwest Florida and have been planting pot gardens for a few years now. . . have had problems with cucumbers lately. They grew very well at first, clinging to the wood lattice wall, growing very tall, had a lot of yellow flowers and some little cucumbers were starting to sprout, but now they don’t look so good. The tall part of the vine is starting to wither and die. Plus, there is a lot of leaf blight and some, what looks like white fluffy covering on parts of the plant where the flowers’ buds bloom. What could be causing this situation with our cucumber plants, and what can we do to prevent the others from succumbing to this not-so-good fate?

The white fluffy stuff sounds like powdery mildew. This artilce should help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/disease/powdery-mildew-homemade-and-organic-remedies.htm

Neem oil may also help with this issue, especially if you notice any bugs that may be present as well. Here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/pesticides/neem-oil-uses.htm
