Q.Black seedy bunches (spots) on my sunflower stems and blooms

Zone Enid, Oklahoma | foxster added on June 21, 2014 | Answered

I have an enormous amount of black seedy bunches of spots on the stems next to the leaves and heads of my sunflowers and even on the blooms themselves. I have sprayed insecticide and this hasn’t stopped it. What could it be and what has caused it?

this sounds like a puzzle. Here's an article on common sunflower problems: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/sunflower/sunflower-problems.htm
but nothing sounds like what you're seeing. Fortunately for all of us, we have this wonderful organization called the Extension Service, which operates in every county in the USA. If you take some samples to them, they should be able to figure out the problem and tell you what to do about it. This link will help you locate the nearest one: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/extension-search/
