bird of paradise not blooming

Question

I have had a bird of paradise plant for about 4 yrs now and it has never bloomed. What is wrong?? It is in a big pot with good mixed soil. It is green and healthy, just never blooms. I have put it in full sun. I have tried sun/shade. Nothing seems to work. Help.
