Q.Bird-of-Paradise Blooms Won’t Open

Anonymous added on December 14, 2010 | Answered

One of my bird-of-paradise plants puts on blooms and they open to the point that I can see the orange petals, but then it stops. The orange petals stick out like a bump and stay there till the bloom fades. Any ideas?

These plants are notorious for being tempermental when it comes to flowering. They will readily flower for months and then just stop. There are a number of factors that can attribute to poor flowering (or lack of).
