Besides Pruning, Are There Other Remedies For Fire Blight In Pear Trees?

I have a new Southern Bartlett which has already leafed out. I want to know as much as possible about how to take care of it, and I have seen “fire blight” mentioned on a number of sites. Is pruning really the only remedy?
