Q.Banyan Tree Disease

Anonymous added on August 2, 2012 | Answered

Our Banyan tree is shedding all its leaves, which has not happened in the last 15 years. The leaves appear to be all the way from green to totally brown and dead with in between shades of yellow and brown discolored edges. Is there some disease attacking it? Last February it got cold enough to killl some of our coconuts (some survived). In the past we had cold days for up to a week (no frost) but this past February and into March we had 6 weeks of weather with the temperature down to 33 F. Could this be the cause?

Water stress can cause this to happen. This summer has been quite hot across the country. If the tree is overly dry, it will shed its leaves first to try to conserve water. Try increasing water to the plant.
