I have been scraping off the scale as I see it and have also begun treatment with your website’s advice. Is scraping doing any good or not? Is this an internal problem with the plant?

A problem did not exist in your plant prior to it being infested with scale. Once the scale is eradicated, your plant will be on the road to recovery because the source of its problem (the scale) will be gone. So, all your efforts are not for naught!
