Q.Asparagus Seed

Anonymous added on September 26, 2012 | Answered

I have asparagus and want to plant seeds taken from my plants. Some are covered with red or brown skin. When do I pull them off the fern and do I open the skin or just plant the whole berry? Looking forward to your answer.

You can harvest the seeds during fall pruning. If you're starting them indoors, you would normally do this about 2-3 months before your last expected frost date. Then once they reach 6-12 inches, you can plant them outdoors, treating them like you would crowns.
