Q.Asparagus No Longer Coming Up

Anonymous added on March 1, 2014 | Answered

I planted asparagus crowns 5 years ago. The first 2 years I did not harvest at all and in the third year I had a fairly decent harvest. Last year, though, only small sprouts came up, similar to the first year. It had been a fairly mild winter but also fairly dry. Could that have been the problem? Is there anything I can do this year to help it come back?

The soil could be lacking something, so a soil test may help. Also, you should feed the growing asparagus annually with a 10-10-10 granular fertilizer and amend the soil with compost. This article may also help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/asparagus/growing-asparagus.htm
