Q.Are Seeds Of Vanessa Compact Red Verbena Fertile?
Hi. I’m impressed by how my neighbor’s Verbena “Vanessa Compact Red” blooms non-stop in full sun in this heat. It’s much better than “Homestead Purple” or any other varieties that I’ve seen. I’ve collected a bunch of seeds. Will they be fertile? If so, then how and when should I sow them outdoors? Is the variety perennial in Houston (zone 9a)? Thanks!

Vanessa Compact Red is part of a series of annual plants bred and trademarked by Danziger company. So if you grow it from seed, it won't be the same as the parent plant but you might get a nice plant. Since it is trademarked, you shouldn't propagate it by taking stem cuttings. It's an annual so it won't survive freezing weather in Houston.
