what is wrong and only purchased in 2020 for mothers day. was happy all seasons but now it appears to be dead…..H E L P

I can't tell what it was but is that new growth at the bottom? If so, cut off the dead material. It may have been overwatered. Most plants take less water during the winter when they rest.
