Q.cold damaged plant

After a freeze, the foliage is brown. Do I need to trim all the dead and when is the best time (living in deep south Texas) for removal of frozen parts of the plant?

Wait until after the winter's last possible frost date in your area, then prune away the dead portions. This article explains more:
