What is this plant ?

Does it Havant practical uses ?

And how would I go about destroying this demon plant that is overtaking my garden ?

This is horsetail. It is a plant that has survived 300 million years so it isn't easy or quick to get rid of it. Herbicide often isn't effective at killing roots.
